Q-SEP | Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Membranes
About Q-SEP
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a membrane process used to remove suspended solids, colloidal matter, high
molecular-weight substances, bacteria and viruses from various feed water sources. UF membranes can
achieve a low and consistent silt density index (SDI) and are often used as pre-treatment for reverse
osmosis using surface water, seawater and biologically treated wastewater as feed source.

Q-SEP UF membranes incorporate high strength hollow fibers which deliver superior performance without
the risk of fiber breaks. These UF membranes are made from a hydrophilic polyether sulfone (PES)
material with excellent low fouling characteristics and operate under a pressurized inside-out flow
configuration for superior performance. Q-SEP modules are manufactured with NSF-PDWEP certification
for drinking water application.
Q-SEP Technology
Q-SEP UF fibers and modules are manufactured in a state-of-the-art, environmentally controlled
manufacturing facility. In the facility, continuous online monitoring to maintain consistent quality. Turbidity
can be reduced to less than 0.05 NTU. Typically, a 6-log removal for bacteria, giardia and cryptosporidium,
while a 4-log removal for viruses, can be achieved.

Q-SEP modules contain an advanced UF fiber prepared by an innovative patented cloud point precipitation
method. This method ensures a very uniform pore size distribution and high pore density in the
membrane. As a result, the product water quality from the Q-SEP modules is significantly better than the
quality from conventional UF modules at a very low operating pressure.

The fibers in the Q-SEP module are held firmly in place, which reduces the stress on the fibers even at
high flow velocities. Uniform fiber packing limits the pressure drop variation within the module and
prevents localized high fouling conditions. The unique end cap sealing design allows for high pressure
operation and ease of assembly. The UF modules can be used as dead-end filtration or in cross flow mode.
The membranes are available with 0.8 mm ID fibers, suitable for feed water with low turbidity and 1.2 mm
ID fibers, suitable to treat water with higher turbidity.
EnviQ | Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR)
About EnviQ
QUA’s EnviQ flat sheet submerged ultrafiltration membranes have been specially developed to improve
the ease of operation and maintenance of MBR facilities. EnviQ’s innovative design offers ultrafiltration
quality product water with a stronger and more rugged PVDF flat sheet membrane. The unique features in
EnviQ consist of reverse diffusion and specially designed air diffusers, which maximize scrubbing
efficiency, lowers pressure and reduces cleaning.
EnviQ Technology | Superior Membrane Technology
EnviQ membranes have billions of
microscopic pores on the surface that form
a barrier to impurities, allowing clean
water to pass. Water is drawn through the
pores by using gentle suction. EnviQ
provides more consistent and higher
quality effluent using an advanced PVDF
reinforced membrane and proprietary
diffuser system.
The proprietary air diffuser design maintains a continuous flow of consistent/correct sized air bubbles. This
then prevents solids from settling at the tank bottom or sticking to the membrane surface and eliminating
septic conditions.

In addition, EnviQ lowers the total installed cost of biological waste water treatment and recycle systems
as compared to conventional activated sludge processes with tertiary filtration. EnviQ facilitates increased
MBR adoption, resulting in more efficient bio treatment, smaller foot print and high quality effluent.
FEDI and FEDI Rx | Two Stage Separation
ABOUT FEDI
The Electrodeionization (EDI) process, invented over 20 years ago, is a continuous, chemical-free method
that removes ionized and ionizable impurities from the feed water using DC power. EDI is most commonly
used to treat Reverse Osmosis (RO); permeate and replace Mixed Bed (MB) ion exchange; producing high
purity water of up to 18 M Ω.cm. EDI eliminates the need to store and handle hazardous chemicals
required for resin regeneration and the associated neutralization steps.

QUA’s Fractional Electrodeionization (FEDI) process is an advancement of EDI and was developed by
taking into account the limitations of conventional EDI. FEDI has been in the market for over five years
now and has been installed in power stations, refineries, and more. Many of these FEDI systems supplied
are some of the largest installed systems in the world.

The patented dual voltage process allows for a higher flexibility and tolerance to inlet water conditions,
thus lowering the risk of scaling, and improving the plant’s design economics and reliability. FEDI products
are supported with CE conformity certificates.
